What Causes Fatigue And Depression While On Depakote?

I have been on Depakote for 3 months ( 750 mg. I have not really seen any significant change in my chronic headaches( usually 4 a week) I am extremely tired, cry very easily and have little motivation. What are your thoughts on my continuing? Shouldn t I have had some relief by now and would these side effects continue if I stay on It? Thank you for your help.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
hello there, Depakote is a medicine which is used for usually two conditions. First is bipolar disorder and second is seizure disorder. You have not mentioned why you were prescribed Depakote. However if you are taking it for bipolar disorder then depression is part of the illness. As the name suggest it has two poles, mania and depression. May be it was started for your manic episode and now you have a depressive episode. If it is the case then you have to consult your psychiatrist and you may require anti depressant medicines to start. All the best
