What Causes Fatigue And Depression While On Fluoxetine?

hi... I stopped taking fluoxetine 3 years ago and I was fine for those years off of it. If I remember correctly I began with 20mg every day then upped the dose to 40mg everyday then 60mg. Since it has a half life I remember after several months and feeling better I was on 60 to 80mg once a week, them twice a month then once a month. Unfortunately, I have to retake it. I had a similar episode when I started taken this medicine in 2010. It first started out as a bad flu, then Chronic fatigue and weakness then severe depression. It seems a virus or infection does this to me. : ( My question is what is the proper dose to get quick results for major depression etc? Will it work the same?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I suggest you use Fluoxetine as below:
- Maintenance dose: 20 to 60 mg orally per day.
- Maximum dose: 80 mg orally per day.

A dose of 40 mg would be sufficient to control depression.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
