Hi,
Macrobid contains
nitrofurantoin which is an antibiotic is used for treating
urinary tract infections caused by several types of bacteria. It is effective against E.coli, Enterobacter cystitis, Enterococcus, Klebsiella and
Staphylococcus aureus. Macrobid interferes with the production of bacterial proteins, DNA and cell walls. Bacteria can't survive without a cell wall or multiply without DNA.
Side effects of Macrobid are nausea, vomiting, headache, rash, itching, loss of appetite, diarrhea,
abdominal pain, change in urine color, lung injury, anemia, liver damage, breathing difficulties, vasculitis, chills, chest pain, fever, dizziness, flu like symptoms, fatigue, allergic reactions etc. These symptoms usually resolve within a week if the medication is stopped. If these side effects persist for long or bother you, then you should consult your doctor promptly for
medical help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician
