What Causes Fatigue And Shortness Of Breath After A Blood Transfusion?
about a month ago i had to get a blood transfusion due to low count of hemoglobin and also had a rapid heart rate (only explanation i got it was due to the really bad period i got that lasted 7 weeks) ever since the transfusion i still get shortness of breath or tired easily and a rapid heart rate i was given the depo shot to stop my period which it did but still have all the other symptoms and always very pale
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. You have been transferred blood, because your haemoglobin was low. 2. Blood transfusion alone would not correct the haemoglobin to normal levels. You would still have low haemoglobin levels, which will cause shortness of breath, fatigue and rapid heart rate. 3. You need to avoid excessive strain till your haemoglobin returns to normal levels. Check your haemoglobin and also get a reticulocyte count to evaluate for bone marrow response. Nutritional improvement is necessary to improve haemoglobin. Supplements of iron, folic acid and Vit B12 would be helpful. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
