Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mom complained of fatigue and shortness of breath after a weekend of what we thought was the stomach flu, she said for a week that she couldn t shake the funky feeling, that Monday she woke up and immediately felt weak and short of breath, called 911 and my brother started CPR. She didn t make it. No autopsy was performed. They say it was a Massive Heart Attack. I am curious if because she did have the stomach flu the weekend before if her potassium and or magnesium was low, would that have caused her to have a heart attack?
Sorry for your mother! As long as the heart attack is concern the main cause of it, is coronary artery disease, blockage of artery, due to plaque, that stopped the blood flow and causing infraction, and this pathology disturbs all the chemical constitution inside and outside the tissue of heart muscle, magnesium and potassium comes very late in picture.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
