What Causes Fatigue, Easy Bruising, Shortness Of Breath And Unexplained Weight Loss?

I recently had a CBC done because I have been having symptoms of fatigue, bruising very easily, SOB, unexplained weight loss, and have been feeling very weak lately. The results of my CBC were within normal limits, with the exception of my WBC which was significantly elevated - my ANC was 9.3 which the lab marked as high, my Neutrophil was 73% which the lab said was marked high, and my lymphocytes were marked low at an 18.5. Due to not feeling well at all, I am very concerned about the results, and I have an apt with my PCP next week, and I m not sure she has seen the results. I also think it is pertinent to mention that I have my associates in Medical Assisting, so I understand a little bit about all this. But I m looking for an expert opinion, to see if I should push to get in to see my Dr. sooner, and let her know the results of my labs in case she hasn t gotten around to looking at them yet. Please advise.

Hello,

Since you have shortness of breath, unexplained loss of weight, fatigue etc with elevated WBC this sounds to be having an infection in the lungs which is leading to all these symptoms. I will advise you to take up and chest x-ray too to rule out any pathological abnormalities in the lungs.

Usually, shortness of breath occurs in respiratory infection. We need to examine the lung and also have x-ray to be seen before commenting. As during respiratory infection, there tends to be more energy used by the pulmonary system for the self-healing of the lungs. As the lungs play an important role in our body for purification of the blood. Since the pulmonary system is consuming the maximum amount of your overall body energy this is but obvious that there will be abundant fatigue.

Also, weight loss is possible as the energy consumption is high by the pulmonary system.

But it is good that you have considered to meet up to a physician as he will be able to assess the lungs and figure out with the breath sounds what kind of pathology is existing.

have you ever checked your oxygen saturation levels? This gives a good idea that some infection is there in the lungs and the purification of the blood is not up to the optimum.

Once you meet up the physician most of the things will be taken care off with medication and breathing exercises. Using a nebulizer is not bad if you have a cold or cough.

In my clinical practice of 12 years, we always take a blood routine, urine routine and chest x-ray in such cases. Post a proper clinical examination and assessment of the breath sounds we are able to guide them in good direction. So does your physician will be.

Don't worry much as this is just time being and you should be well soon. For time being take steam and do breathing exercises a lot.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
