Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Fatigue, Nosebleeds And Nausea With History Of ITP?
Hi, I have a condition called ITP, an auto-immune illeness where my platelets attack each other. I take iron supplements for that. I also have severe hypoparathyroidism, and just learned my calcium levels are very low. I take calcium every day (500 mg, about to start 3x) and Calcitriol to help absorption of the calcium move along. Recent symptoms: Severe Fatigue, Frequent Nosebleeds, light Nausea, and Lightheadedness. Is this the ITP, or just the hypo? Or both? And what do you suggest as treatment?
* As per my clinical experience, the Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura is an auto immune disorder where IgG antibodies are formed against the cell membrane of platelets and increased platelet destruction into the spleen.
There are various treatment options for the nose bleed condition, depending upon the platelet count as:
@ If the platelet count is below 30,000 with nose bleed, best initial therapy is glucocorticoids.
@ If the count is below 10,000 and bleeding is severe ; one may need intravenous immunoglobulin therapy.
@ In resistant or recurrent cases, one may need a Spleenectomy surgery after taking vaccination against Neiseeria, H. Influenzae and pneumococcus.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
