What Causes Fatigue While On Vancomycin For Osteomyelitis And Cellulitis?

My mother just completed a 6 week regimen of IV Vancomycin for Osteomyelitis and cellulitis. She has been off the drug for 1 week, but still feels lethargic, which she was experiencing while on the drug. She is 94 and I would like to know how much longer will it take for her to feel like her energetic self again?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The fatigue can be related to the use of antibiotics but also to the infection. I recommend to give her a vitamin supplement. I also recommend to drink liquidiser, eat a healthy diet and rest. The fatigue will go away on its own, as the vancomycin go away from the system.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
