Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Fatigue While Suffering From COPD And Atrial Fibrillation?
I have very little energy. It is a task just to take a shower. I have been in AFib a couple of times and also have been diagnostic with COPD. I have just finished a breathing test and my doctor informed me that my lungs were in trouble but not to any great extent. The was i burn out with very little activity is the same way i felt when i first went into AFib but my heart doctor assures me that i am in rhythm. 12-15 years while performing a stress test it took just about one min on the tread mill before my heart was racing sufficiently fast to do the test. At that time i was told that i was exercise intolerant. I do have quite serious back and neck damage and am on morphine, Fentenal, and 10m codine.
As you mentioned in the history of COPD, this is all I feel is due to lack of energy in you. Usually, the respiratory system consumes the maximum amount of human body energy and needs to work out behind the pulmonary rehabilitation. Pulmonary rehabilitation will have a set of exercise along with the medicines which will help the lung tissue to improve and the respiratory muscles to have enough strength to support the respiratory system. By which the fatigue will be delayed and the endurance will be improved. Also, you mentioned about the atrial fibrillation, the pulmonary rehabilitation will be combined with the cardiac rehabilitation plan too. For back and neck pain, you need to strengthen the muscles with simple exercises of low intensity.
Most cases with COPD have low endurance levels and it needs attention under a competitive pulmonary rehabilitation team so the overall functions of the respiratory system and cardiac symptoms improve.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
