Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just had my gallbladder removed a week ago and during surgery they took samples of my liver. No cancer but I was told I have fatty liver disease. I go to a liver specialist in Jan. but I am more concerned because my mother died of cirrhosis and never drink but was a diabetic. Until I am seen, I want to make sure I eat the right foods and start the process of treating my liver, loosing weight and feeling better. I do not want to die like my mom. I am hoping that my doctors have not let this problem go unnoticed to long. I have had intestinal problems my whole life and I am scared. what can I do now until I know what stage the disease is in?
I understand your concern. The probability of fatty liver disease progressing to cirrhosis is 1-2 % over 20 years and is preventable with gradual weight loss, a healthy diet and a more active lifestyle.I am sure your doctors are aware of your diagnosis and have given you the appropriate advice on lifestyle changes. Regular checkups and sticking to the guidelines will help you heal your liver and live a healthy life.
Wishing you all the best.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
