Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My esophagus feels swollen, only at top. I notice it slightly more after I have eaten, but can feel it most of the time. My glands are not swollen, like if I had an infection. No fever, no other bad or unusual symptoms.. It doesn t seem more difficult to swallow, just an odd sort of feeling at top of throat. This had been happening for a couple of weeks now. What could ths be?
Swollen throat with other symptoms could be due to acute tonsillitis which is mostly due to viral infection (adenovirus, rhinovirus)or some times bacterial ( streptococcus, staphylococcus etc) or spitocheatas etc.
The treatment is mainly antibiotics ( macrolides or quinolones or amoxycillin etc) with analgesic, antiinflammatories and antihistamines with mast cell stabilizers and other symptomatics for 7 to 10 days.
If there is chronic infection of tonsils then surgical removal should be done.(tonsillectomy)
