What Causes Feeling Of Lump In Esophagus?

Hi, While swallowing solids, I feel like there is a lump in my lower to middle food pipe, not throat. I have no cold or sore throat at the moment. I fear the worst - esophagus cancer. What could it be? I am 28, regularly exercise and have little to no acidity. Thanks, Mahesh V

Hi and thanks for contacting.

This your symptoms appear to be secondary to Gastroesophageal reflux.
Throat symptoms secondary to GERD are called as extraesophageal manifestation of relux.

The symptoms occur because of physical reflux of acidic content into the throat. The other causes could be polyp,hernia or abnormal growth.
You may undergo complete hemogram and upper GI endoscopy to rule out above pathology.

Doing some diaphragmating exercises and having the head end of the bed elevated by 4-6 inches will also help.

Consult surgeon who can examine you and prescribe relevant investigations and drugs.
