What Causes Feeling Of Something Stuck In Throat After Having Steroid Shot?
Hi. I received a steroid shot in my right arm last Thursday. I woke up Friday morning feeling like I had something stuck in my throat. Almost the feeling of a pill being stuck, or (as awful as this sounds) a chunk of vomit may be stuck. Nothing I eat or drink will wash this lump away, I cannot see it on my own & it does not hurt so much as it s mind boggling. Any ideas?
What you're experiencing is what we call "globus". This is more of a sensation and does not actually mean that there is something stuck in your throat. There are many causes of this and most cases are caused by uncontrolled heartburn. Steroids can make heartburn worse, so the timing also makes sense.
Starting a heartburn medication most likely will help. You could try taking Pantoprazole 40mg daily for two weeks. If that doesn't help, you could see a doctor for further testing or additional medications.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Timothy Wong, General & Family Physician
