Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My Wife had has swelling of her feet lately. Sometimes it is only in one foot. She is not very mobile because of a hip replacement, and does not walk around much. She is a user of alcohol daily. Not to the extent of ebriation but constantly sipping throughout the day.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Based on your description, swelling of the feet of your wife could be due to 2 reasons. 1. Stagnation of tissue fluid due to improper blood circulation and draiagage due to gravity - caused by immobility of limbs 2. Decreased protein levels in blood as she is used to take alcohol. Kindly get her blood checked for Total Proteins and Albumin levels. In case it is less, she would require Protein supplemtation. Otherwise, she would require foot end elevation and physiotherapy to mobilize limbs to improve circulation and avoid stagnation of fluids. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
