What Causes Fever After Removal Of The Gallbladder And Pancreas?

Hello, my 73 y.o. father has a 103.5 temp. He had surgery the week after Easter, gall bladder removed, some stomach removed and about 1/3 of pancreas removed due to cancerous cysts. That piece of his recovery is going well, but the last three/four days he has been running a fever and vomiting quite a bit. Usually after he eats, but sometimes it is because he is so cold he shakes so hard that he vomits. The vomiting isn t much of our issue right now, we re concerned about the fever and trying to determine if we should take him to the ER? Any thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You should take him to ER. He may be suffering an infection at operation site. He needs intravenous rehydration since he vomited and has undergone major surgery that impairs digestion and absorption of food.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
