Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 4 year old has pink eye. He was on ofloxacin for two days and then developed fever. The original doctor he went to is out of town so we went to a different doctor who changed the drops to tobramycin. What is the difference between the two medications?
Tobramycin and Ofloxacin are different types of antibiotics effective against conjunctivitis caused by susceptible bacteria.
Tobramycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic and Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic.
Side effects of these antibiotics are quite similar which include stinging/burning of the eyes, temporary blurred vision, eye itching, and increased lacrimation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
