What Causes Fever Along With Appetite Loss?

My daughter was not feeling well yesterday morning. She had a fever of 100.1. I gave her fluids and she slept for most of the day. Her temperature this morning was at 100 and I kept her home from school. She has been resting and has not had an appetite (very unusual for her). I just took her temp again and it is at 101.7. I would normally just have her rest and let her body fight it off but with the flu epidemic this season should I be concerned? Thank you in advance.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It seems your daughter is suffering from a viral fever and if she doesn't have any other symptoms like sore throat or cough then she only needs symptomatic management. Loss of appetite during a viral fever is normal and there is nothing to worry about.

Keep her hydrated by giving her a lot of fluids. Since she is running a temperature give her Tylenol at 8 hourly intervals and do cold sponging if the temperature spikes higher.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nazma.Amman
