Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My co-worker is a 47-year-old male who complained this morning of fever and dark blood (darker than Coca Cola) in his urine. He also says that when he gets the urge to go, he has almost no time to get to the bathroom before it starts flowing. I m worried about his condition and I know this is serious, but what can it be?
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Since he is male then the first thing to think of is prostate enlergemnet. Other common causes inlcude uroinfection or kidneys stones. This is mainly self limiting and doesnt require any specific treatment if it wont persist. Otherwise, he should do certain tests. Less common it indicates possible bleeding in urethra, bladder or kidneys from popped vessel or some other cause. IF this continues he should do urine analysis, urinoculture and kidneys ultrasound to rule these main causes out. He should drink raspberry tea and plenty of water till tests. Some serious issues usch as bladder tumor are rare but should be ruled out in his age epsecially if bleeding increases.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Wishing you good health.
