I am a bi sexual male that had unprotected penetrative sex (receiver) almost 4 weeks ago. Two days after the encounter, I developed flu-like symptoms, i.e. fever, body aches, etc. I also had watery diarrhea. Since it is flu season, I just suspected the flu. Symptoms continued for 3 days and I developed runny nose, sore throat, and a dry, non-productive cough. I decided to go to the doctor just in case it as developing into something more severe. My primary care physician was booked so I went to a local urgent care. The dr there determined that I had what looked like the flu but they had run out of swabs to check for sure. Dr also said I had what appeared to be upper respiratory infection. I did not mention anything about unprotected sex and frankly did not consider a STI. Dr prescribed a z pack (I don t remember the dosage but it was 2 pills the first day, followed by one pill for 3 additional days) and some cough meds. I started to feel better in a couple of days but the upper respiratory infection didn t seem to be getting better. At that point, I decided to go to my PCP. He checked me (again I did not mention STI) and gave me a shot of Rocephin (1000 mg) and started me on 1500/day amoxil for sinus/upper respiratory infection (I still have 3 days of amoxil to take). Two days later, I got a text from my sexual partner that he had tested positive for gonorrhea but negative for chlamydia. I have been doing research online and since I have had both antibiotics typically administered to treat gonorrhea, should I still go get tested now or wait until I finish the dosage of amoxil and be tested to make sure that the bacteria has been eradicated. I read online on a doctor s forum that testing would be unnecessary at this point since I had all the antibiotics normally administered plus some and that the antibiotics I am still taking could affect the test results. Also, when I do get the screening (I will be tested just to ensure that everything is clear) since I was a receiver of anal penetration, should I have an anal swab done instead of urine test. I am concerned that there would be no trace of the bacteria in my urine stream since I did not do the penetration. Thanks for your help.
