What Causes Fever And Bodyache After Taking Amoxicillin?

I had a really bad head cold for about 2 weeks, and then just before we left on vacation went to a dr who prescribed amoxicillin. I started taking it this past Tuesday evening. And by Wednesday evening and since then I have had a bad fever and chills with really bad body aches. Could this be a reaction to the amoxicillin? And should I stop taking it?

Hello, Thanks for the query.
When "cold" occurs it is usually the nose, throat and may be sinuses (para nasal air sinuses) are involved. I am not really able to understand the meaning of head cold. The reason for prescription of amoxycillin by the doctor could be presence of bacterial infection (according to that doctors assessment). Usully cold or acute rhinitis is a viral infection and a self limiting one. Does not need antibiotics, unless there concurrent sore throat or pharyngitis etc due to bacteria.
The symptoms mentioned by you are due to some infection. The drug side effects can be allergic ones plus gastric irritation, belching, loose motions etc. You should continue the drug for about to 7 days. Plus take Ibuprofen plus acetaminophen two or three times a day to control fever, body ache. Chills normally go off once the fever sets in. Also Ibu+ Acetaminophen will help in controlling body ache. Also take adequate fluids preferably oral rehydration solution about a liter a day. Thanks.
