What Causes Fever And Rashes On Palms Of A Toddler?
My almost 4 year old daughter had low grade fever last night (highest was 100 axillary), and vomiting. This AM I noted petichiae on the cheeks and eyelid and swollen lymph nodes in neck. She did say her cheeks hurt and her finger. Very faint lacelike rash noted to palms which she does have on ocassion. Currently her appetite is improved and she is afebrile with phenergan and APAP. Should I take her to be evaluated by ped?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.
Paracetamol can be given that too only if fever is more than 100 F. I suggest not using combination of medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol. I FEEL SHE IS RECOVERING FROM A VIRAL ILLNESS OR EXANTHEM AS HER APPETITE IS IMPROVING.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
