What Causes Fever And Red Swollen Throat Long After Wisdom Tooth Extraction?
hi, i have a wisdom tooth thats been partially out for a month now, and in the last couple of days ive woken up with a fever and a very sore, red swollen throat to the point where it hurts to eat or swallow, is this something serious or will it most likely just run its course?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
As per your complain and presentation of symptoms fever and red swollen throat can be due to wisdom tooth problem in case if the gum flap over the wisdom tooth gets inflamed due to infection. Infection occurs due to food accumulation in the space between the gum flap and the tooth and the condition is known as PERICORONITIS..
But in case if the gum flap is not inflamed it can be due to bacterial or viral throat infection..
For confirmation of the exact cause you should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated.. In case if it is due to Pericoronitis then a course of antibiotics, painkillers, ad warm saline gargles will help..
In case of throat infection treatment will depend on whether it is bacterial or viral in nature..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
