What Causes Fever, Body Pain And Eye Pain In A 13 Year Old Boy?

My 13 year old son had a slight fever for 3 days with body aches and eyes that hurt to move. Now those symptoms are gone and this morning he woke up to a cluster of pink bumps on the outside of his right elbow and on the knuckles of fingers on both hands. Are the fever and bumps related, do you think?

Hello,

As per your mention, it seems to be a viral infection (mumps or the chickenpox). You need to keep the child in isolation especially when he cough and sneeze to avoid droplet transfer of infection. He needs good hydration and paracetamol.

If these red-pink pumps turn into the pustules and burst the fluid from them, it is also very contagious and should avoid contact with other children (A medical leave from school).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
