What Causes Fever, Chills, Elevated WBC Count, Vomiting, And Small Intestine Infection?

My sister is 58. she has diabetes. She had charcot ankle, and had surgery March 4 in which her ankle was rebuilt with metal bits. Anyway, now she is having fever, chills, elevated white blood cell count, vomiting, and small intestine infection. She is in the hospital. No one has said it but I am concerned she may have sepsis. Am I being over reactionary here??? My email address is YYYY@YYYY.
