Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Fever, Diarrhea And Large Lumps At The Back Of The Tongue?
I have been running fevers as high as 102 for 2 days and also had some diarrhea. No fever today, but I have large lumps on the back of my tongue that are very sore. I am uninsured at this time so I have not gone to my doctor. Should I be concerned about this?
The symptoms can be due to Stomach infection that can be due to bacterial or viral infection causing diarrhea and fever.
Large bumps at the back of tongue can be due to swollen circumvallate papillae that can be secondary to infection or inflammation.
You should consult an Emergency room and get evaluated. A blood test and a stool culture can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.
In case if there is bacterial infection, then antibiotics like Metronidazole drug can be advised.
For now, take Acetaminophen drug to reduce fever, drink plenty of water, and eat more of Yogurt and light meals. Take oral rehydration salts dissolved in water. Also, take sufficient rest.
For bumps on tongue, do warm saline gargles and do cool water rinses and maintain a good oral hygiene.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
