What Causes Fever, Headache And Muscle Weakness?

It began with a severe headache just under my scalp/skull on top of my head. Then my temp climbed quickly from 96.4 to 103.4 (my normal is 97.5). It stayed over 103 for hours before I went to the ER. My only secondary symtoms were extreme fatigue and muscle weakness. Also bright lights and sharp noises seemed amplified by 10. I did not have any chest pain, sore throat, runny nose at all. When they examined me, my lungs sounded clear. Although I did not have a painful neck, they suspected meningitis. After simple blood and urine tests showed zero abnormalities, then then did a CT scan of my brain, which showed no swelling. They then did a spinal tap to draw spinal fluid, but it also showed no signs of elevated proteins, white blood cells, etc. They have sent 3 vials of blood and spinal fluid off for culture development. That was 4 days ago, and I still do not have the results. They dismissed me, so I saw my primary care physician who heard a wispy noise in my left lung, so she was sure I had pneumonia. I still have no chest pain, sore throat or any respiratory symptoms. I am taking Levaquin, but have no idea if they are on the right track. My fever is held in check by taking ibuprofen every 4 hours, along with Tramadol for the headache. Any ideas ???

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your detailed and well placed history. My thoughts:
As your Primary Physician has noticed some sounds from lung and told you about the possibility of pneumonia, it can cause all other symptoms of headache, ringing in ears and so on.
It is good that CT brain, spinal fluid tap, culture tests have been performed as these help to rule out such problems related to headache.
Simple X-ray and if needed a CT scan of chest would give a proper diagnosis and thus allow for further proper management with antibiotics , symptomatic and supportive management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, General Surgeon
