Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Fever, Pain, Heavy Drainage After Abscess Removal From Buttock Area?
I had an abscess removed from my left buttock area and it was left open for drainage. I am also under the care of the wound center at the hospital. However, since yesterday, I have been sweating and having a low grade fever. Now my fever is at 100.9 (Orally) and in a lot of pain and heavy drainage. I am not on any antibiotics at this time. Is this something I should be concerned about or is it normal? The incision is about 3" x 4" and fairly deep (there is a lot of "stuff" showing). I have been rinsing in the shower often, as advised by the wound care doctor. I am continuously changing the antimicrobial gauzes as they become very wet with drainage. So, should I wait till tomorrow and call doctor or go to ED? Thank you...
Hi, It seems that you got infection in the wound. You require one course of antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medicines. Go for dressing daily after proper cleaning the wound with antiseptic lotion preferably by a doctor. Ok and take care.
