Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Fever, Pain On The Top Of Cervical Spine And Weakness?
I have had neck pain for the past 3 months on and off. 3 days ago it got really bad and the top of my cervical spine on my left side of my neck. I have a hard bump on the top of my left side that randomly came. I also have had a slight fever as well as some weakness. I m only 22 years old and don t know what s going on.
The hard bump on the left side of the neck (cervical area) needs to be clinically examined to detect if it is a benign tumor, skin cyst, boil or infection due to lymph nodes enlargement. Cysts and benign tumors can be excised by surgical intervention and treated with anti inflammatory and antibiotic medicines.
Since you have history of pain in the neck since three months you should get X-ray, CT and MRI cervical spine done to detect any developing pathology that is causing you discomfort. >You will be treated according to the pathology detected. In the mean time, you can take NSAIDS, Naproxen / Combiflam, one SOS when needed for relieve from pain.
Alternate hot and cold compression may help. Neck exercises under a physical therapist may help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
