Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I was having high fever for the past 4 days(around 102 degrees). I took paracetamol to reduce the fever as precribed by doctor. They did tests for dengue, malaria, typhoid and hepatitis B. All came out negative. But my sgpt sgot levels are 597 and 529 IU/L respectively. Doctor suspects it to be hepatitis A or E. I have to go for one more LFT tomorrow. I have had a history of fatty liver(3 yrs back). I went on a strict non fatty diet and could bring down my sgpt sgot levels then. Is it possible that I am having hepatitis A or E now, or is it some other problem. I have severe back ache on my left side particularly and a slight pain in the front too. Can it be somthing to do with the pancreas?
Since you tested negative while your enzymes we elevated I do not think that is the cause. I think you have a fatty liver and yo did see a drop when you stopped binging. I think you should lose weight which has been the only approach to fatty liver. Recently there have been some studies which suggest that vitamin e and a diabetic drug may also help reverse some of the effects of fatty liver. I don't think that presently either of these 2 are being routinely prescribed but it is something you could discuss with your doctor.
Here is one article discussing vitamin e and pioglitazone.
