What Causes Fever With Severe Dry Cough?

My father is having fever for last 5 days along with severe dry cough. Doctor suggested dengue, malaria tests. Comes negative. Lower platelets count 125. Prescribed calpol , ascoril d and antibiotic...suggested test for chikungunya...still not relieved...please help..

Hi,

It can be viral fever as tests have been suggested in that regard already. However complete blood counts specially platelets need to be looked at and repeated on alternative days to see for any decreasing trends.

Any other medications for fever should be strictly avoided except acetaminophen. Keep good hydration. A chest X-ray may also be needed for any signs of lower respiratory tract infection.
