My 24 year old daughter. Has a fever of 103 very swollen glands in her neck and a sore throat making it difficult to eat or even drink. She also has sores on her tongue and sounds weird when she talks like her tongue is swollen. It s been 24 hours since the onset of this.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms are typical of pharyngitis or tonsillitis. The infection might have extended to the posterior part of the tongue as well.

Consult a general practitioner and start a short course of antibiotics preferably amoxiclav. Do warm saline gargles for symptomatic relief.

You can also try over the counter available drugs like paracetamol for fever.

If symptoms persist better to consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated. If there is diagnostic confusion. a throat swab may be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
