Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My boyfriend has had a fever of between 99-101 for 4 days. Yesterday he went to urgent care and they said he has an ear infection and bronchitis. He has taken 3 doses of antibiotics and alternating between motrin and tylonol for the fever. The fever comes down with meds then right back up within 4 hours of taking the meds. He s also taking mucinex for the cough. Suggestions? I ve never seen a fever last 4-5 days in an adult.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of fever, bronchitis and ear infection which can occur due to bacterial as well as viral infection.
When upper respiratory tract infection like sore throat left untreated or due to low immunity sometimes infection get transfer to ear through Eustachian tube, which cause further complications or cause eustachian tube dysfunction . Apply warm compresses to external ear.
I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist if not getting relief with present medicine for proper diagnosis like swab test and viral culture test . Doctor may order stronger antibiotics , antiviral ( acyclovir ) along with decongestant and expectorant.
For now do betadine and warm saline gargles and apply dry hot compresses to external ear.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
