my grandmother had a stroke and lost the use of her right hand. she is regaining feeling and movement but sometimes when she moves her arm or back her fingers clench into an fist and they are very stiff and hard to open. what causes this and what can we do?
HI Well come to HCM This kind of stiffness is common in case of paralysis of upper limb and the exact mechanism is not fully known but may be due to upper motor nervous system excitation and this is not may not be the sign of recovery, this is not danger, and just do nothing, this may happens for few minuets only, physiotherapy is the best option for some recovery, take care and have a nice day.
