Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Seemingly out of the blue the skin on my scrotum and penis flaked like it had been sunburned. No pain, no itching, no sexual intercourse for the previous 2 weeks. I jumped in the ocean and felt a kind of sensation, but no pain. After that I noticed the flaking. Also, I ve used a new sunscreen that has zinc oxide and felt unusual sensation on my face. Related? Solution? Thanks. Lee
Since you had a dive in the ocean the flaking of the skin is indicative of aquatic dermatosis, atopic dematosis. Since you have only flaking & no itching of the skin it is not eczema.
You are suggested to take warm showers & gently rub the flaky skin so that it comes out. Do not peel or scratch.
Pat your self dry & apply mild anti inflammatory cream or ointment (aloe vera based cream, soframycin) that heals your skin.
Corticosteroid based creams(Betnovate C/ Betnovate N) ointment work well. Avoid sex for a couple of days. Wear loose fitting cotton clothes. Take care of your personal hygiene. Do not share your toiletries with anyone.
You should use sunscreens when outdoors but use the one that suits you. Do not keep experimenting with new products.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
