What Causes Flat Dark Colored Patches On The Back?

my husband is 47 and has two circular, flat darker colored (light brown) spots on his back. It started out as one spot, about the size of a quarter about 4 months ago in the lower middle of his back. that one is still there and there is a new one, upper back about the size of a half dollar. at first I thought Tinea Versicolor but they look nothing like what I see in the pictures for that.

I really appreciate your concern, fungal infection is very likely and this can be treated on tentative basis with "Miconazole cream" apply this three times in day, if this does not responds then clinical examination would be necessary, hope this information helps, take care and have a nice day.
