What Causes Flatulence In Diaphragm While On Herceptin Treatment For Breast Cancer?
Good evening. I had breast cancer (HER2+) and had surgery (mastectomy) and Im doing a treatment com Herceptin (Trastuzumab). Now, IM feeling flatulences in my diaphragm and I cant sleep. Is there any suggestion, exercise or advise to provide to me, please?
Trastuzumab is known to cause the following side effects like nausea, abdominal bloating, diarrhea, vomiting, allergic rash etc. You can have multiple small meals in a day. Avoid taking large amounts of food at once. Avoid having food before treatment. Tab. Rabeprazole once daily before food will help reduce the bloating and flatulence.
For sleep, you can have tab. Zolpidem once daily 1 hour before sleep. You can take this tablet when you have extreme sleep difficulty. Regular minimal exercise like walking will improve your symptoms as well as your overall health. Meditation daily will help too. If your symptoms don't come down even after trying the above treatment for 4-5 days, you may consult your oncologist once.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
