Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi there, I have a flesh colored bump on my lip that is the about the size of a pen tip. I ve had it for over 3 years now and it grows over time. I have removed it myself twice and every time it comes back a couple months later in the exact same spot. It doesn t hurt or bother me. I just want to know what it is.
Flesh colored bump on the lip may be most probably mucus cyst (Mucocele). It is usually due to some injury to the lip like recurrent bite of the lip or burning by some hot food. Saliva or mucus collects in the tissue at the site of injury resulting in mucocele. Herpes simplex may be another cause of recurring sore on the lip. However, it is rarely single and it usually causes some pain or burning also.
Pimples may be another cause, but it always start at the adjoining skin of lip & may spread to lip. However, if a sore, blister or lump on the lip does not go away or it bleeds or is painful, then histopathological examination of the lesion is always advised to rule out/confirm the possibility of some cancerous growth.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
