What Causes Fluctuating Blood Sugar Levels?

i am a new ( about a year) diabetic and was prescribed 500mg metformin 2 times a day and my blood tests have been all over the board. A week ago I started taking the medicine once a day and my blood tests leveled off, but some times low. Tonight 2 hours after a meal it was 57. I ate a half of a donut and 15 minutes later it was 87. What do you suggest? Dick O Neal

Dear sir i can understand your concern.
I am sorry to hear you have been having difficulties getting your blood sugar in the normal range now. I am very happy you are this conscientious because having a well controlled blood sugar is very important in preventing the onset of diabetic complications.
In my opinion you are getting episodes of hypo, which might be due to medication what you are on.
Metformin is a very good medication for diabetes and it is a first line medication, very rarely it causes hypoglycemia.
i suggest you to reduce the medication too half dose and meet your doc
continue your diet and exercise as usually.

Regards
