What Causes Fluctuation In TSH Level After Removing Parathyroid Adenoma?
I had a parathyroid adenoma removed 2 weeks ago today. Serum calcium and Vitamin D are in normal range as of 2/15 bloodwork, but my tsh which was previously normal is now 0.09. Is my thyroid just cranky from the surgery? What else could cause that big of a fluctuation?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
TSH goes down due to many reasons. Sick euthyroid state following surgery is one of the reason. Excess thyroid hormone production from thyroid can cause TSH to go down. Many drugs can cause low TSH. An autonomous thyroid nodule also can cause this. You will have to repeat TSH along with a free T3 and FT4 after couple of weeks and based on that further decision can be taken. If TSH is persistently low, you may require to do a radio iodine scan.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
