Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My doctor wants me to repeat a blood count test because of my white cell count was not normal. What could cause it and what can help it. I am currently on antibiotics for a sinus infection that would have been present during the original blood test.
Thanks for asking at Healthcare Magic. I read your question and I understand your concern. WBC count increases from normal range in acute sinus infection. After starting antibiotics infection subsides and WBC count returns to normal level. That's why your doctor is asking you to repeat the count. But it can be raised in other conditions as well, clinical judgment alone is sufficient after starting antibiotics. It is mandatory only in HIV patients (CD4 count:it can be roughly calculated from WBC count) when they are on HIV treatment besides antibiotics. Hope it helps best.
