Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Fluctuations In Heart Rate And Palpitations While On Prednisone?
I am flunctuating from heart beat of 51 to 60 - usually no lower than 53. My temperature is flunctuating from sweats (no actual temp taken) to shaking/chills and temperature is going down as low as 96.3. Palpatations come with the low temperature ans stop when I war back up. I was recently bumped up to high dosage of Prednisone (70 mg per day). Could this be causing it? Is this life threatening? Should I be afraid to go to sleep?
As per my clinical experience, the fluctuations in heart rate and palpitation while on prednisone indicates disturbances related to drug intake most likely. Though it is not life threatening, proper care with medications and dose adjustment is mandatory to avoid further hassles in recovery. It is mediated via autonomic dis-regulation through baro and chemo receptors controlling the overall homeostasis of the cardiovascular system.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
