What Causes Fluid In The Ear And Tonsillitis While Treating Sore Throat?
I went to urgent care a few weeks ago for a sore throat and they first prescribed me amoxicillin and then a z pack. I went back today to find out I have a lot of fluid behind my right ear and my left tonsil is severely enlarged. They prescribed me a steroid and Tylenol with codeine. I am still in extreme pain. They referred me to a specialist to get my tonsils out. But I m in so much pain I can t eat, sleep, or drunk. Should I go to the ER?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
The problem has risen from tonsils with blockage of the eustachian tube. It got inflamed to cause fluid in ear and all the other problems. Removal of tonsils needs infection to be under control with suitable effective antibiotic. Please consult an ENT specialist for proper treatment and advice.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
