What Causes Fluid In The Lungs And Around The Spleen?
last year I was hospitalised with acute shortness of breath and sharp pains to the heart, chest and back. I was after a scan and X -ray confirmed to have fluid in most of my left lung. after removing 70% of this fluid and having another x ray was informed by the doctors that I had fluid around the spleen. TB and cancer, as well s pneumonia was scratched off the list... I missed my appointment with the doctors so have not really identified the reason for this. Can you tell me why this occurs?
Fluid in chest in medical terms means pleural effusion. This fluid can either be blood(hemothorax), serous effusion, pus ( empyema). Blood or blood stained fluid could be due to chest trauma, cancer, tuberculosis. Serous fluid could be due to cardiac failure, renal failure, hepatic failure , low serum protein levels etc. Pus in chest can be due to infected pleural effusion.
