Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Fluid Retention And Impaired Balance Post Knee Replacement?
Had left knee replaced a few years ago and ever since it continues to fill up with fluid and I had to have it drained several times even though I had taken Bacterin. My concern is that when I m standing or walking the leg gives out on me. Have to catch myself from falling all the time. I do also have back problems with 5 bulging discs degenerative also? I feel I have a pinched nerve or several since my feet are numb most of the time. What do you think could be the problem??
Both the numbness of your feet (due to compression of the nerves by the discs) and the changes in your knee could affect your muscle strength and cause weakness.
The nerves in the feet affect balance so if they are not working well, it can contribute to falling. You should consider visiting a neurologist for assessment to see if there is any additional treatment option.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
