What Causes Fluid Retention In Leg After An Injury?

I fell on some stairs about 3 /4 years ago and hit my leg really hard. It swelled up and bruised instantly, for a long time afterwards it felt numb! My leg still seems to have a collection of fluid that can feel quite tender when pushed! What could it be?

Hello. Good day.
Read your query and noted the contents.
Its like you developed a hematoma that has not quite resolved. Chronic hematomas are recognised commonly in practice. The numbness could be the result of local injury to the nerves secondary to the fall and also due to chronic pressure as a result of the contents of the swelling over the nerves locally. Since its tender I suggest you do an ultrasound of the area to see if it can be drained or if a compression bandage for an optimum time will suffice. Hope this helps.
Please feel free to drop in any more queries. I will be happy to help.
Regards,
Dr. Praveen
