What Causes Fluttering In The Chest?

I started having a feeling of fluttering in my chest (upper and down the middle) plus at those times my heart seems to beat hard. This happens all throughout the day. This started about a week & half ago. I m usually not doing anything out of the ordinary. And I m not stressed or have anxiety. I ve been taking vitamin supplements called Thrive by Le-Vel since Jan 1st. They have green tea as the caffeine product. I ve never been sensitive to caffeine. My blood pressure last week was 134/82 which is in the normal, range for me. I take Coreg 12.5mg 2x a day, synthroid 100 mag and 20 mg of Crestor (cholesterol was slightly above normal, my heart doctor wants it a lot lower) Wondering if I need to go to the doctor?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Your symptoms may be related to gastroesophageal reflux disease i.e. stomach acid reflux or GERD. Also, other gastrointestinal problems (gallbladder, gastric ulcer) and pulmonary problems may be blamed for your symptoms.

If you were my patient apart from ECG, cardiac ECHO and heart monitoring; I would recommend an abdominal ultrasound, chest X-ray and upper endoscopy to exclude pulmonary and gastrointestinal problems.

Meanwhile, I suggest using OTC antacids such as Maalox. This will be of help in case of gastric hyperacidity.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein,
General Surgeon
