What Causes Fluttering Sensation And Ear Pain While On Beta-blockers For Arrythmia?

Hello, I am 49 years old. I have always had a benign pvc arrythmia since 1996, and have been taking beta blockers for many years now. they help keep them under control for the most part. Of course there are times when I do get more of of the palpitations. However, the passed couple of weeks, and especially the passed four five days now, I have had continuous fluttering palpitations, but also have like sinus pain in my head on and off, and ear pain, I feel very congested, very tired, and just very low energy. I have also been under a tremendous amount of stress for mine months now. This is the first time in many years that I ve had so many palpitations though. I went to my cardiologist, and he gave me an EKG which was normal, and my b/p was good. I have to go for a cardiac work up on Friday the 15th. I was just wondering if it is possible for a viral or sinus infection can cause so many palpitations. my e-mail is YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello there

it is quite possible for a viral or sinus infection to precipitate ectopics in a susceptible individual. sometimes a slight rise in blood pressure also cause palpitations. A 24 hr holter monitoring will be immensely helpful. the arrhythmia is causing the constant flutter..and anxiety is adding to the problem.
However an echocardiogram and holter will settle the issue..
hope this helped...
