Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had 2 surgeries of the knee secondary to PVS. After the last surgery I had 14 treatments of radiation. Now 5 years out of the treatment I have developed pain in my lateral foot at the area where the calcaneous and cuboid bone meet, Now my 5th MT IS sore. I am a physical therapist and have stretched, strengthening and iced to no avail. I have gone to an ortho foot specialist and even had an MRI of my foot which showed nothing. He is convinced that is coming from my back, but I have point tenderness, a small fluid pocket area hasformed under my lateral malleolus and I have changed shoes, tried inserts everything, splints etc. and still have the same pain in the same area. Any suggestions? Might it be some kind of tendonitis. It is literally getting on my last nerve!
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Since you have had surgeries and radiotherapy of the knee, during gait, one would try and place less pressure on the affected knee and foot of the same side. Thus there is more plantar pressure building up on the other foot which would lead to pain, strain on the ligaments, tendons, and foot bones. To relieve that foot of excessive pressure it is important that you wear footwear with soft, pressure distributing insoles, at all times. Materials like Platazote, EVA, Poron, Silicon are appropriate. This would surely help you.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
