What Causes Forceful Heartbeat During Viral Illness When Diagnosed With MVP?

I am a 39 year old female with Mitral Valve Prolapse. I notice that each time I have a cold or viral illness (particularly with a fever) my heart feels like it is laboring more than usual and beating more irregularly. Could this be due to the MVP? Just curious.
