Hello.
Thanks for writing to HCM.
Glipizide is not known to cause forgetfulness though it may cause symptoms like nausea, vomiting,
nervousness, anxiety, depression, etc.
A possible cause for sudden onset forgetfulness which is very obvious and disconcerting is a stroke in the brain. This is more likely if you have been a diabetic since a long time and your sugars are not under control. Other risk factors are presence of
hypertension,
high cholesterol, a heart condition causing irregular heartbeats or a condition which causes blood to clot. Though you are quite young, it is the most common possibility.
Other possibilities are
electrolyte imbalance or Alzheimer's but both occur with a different set of associated symptoms and seem unlikely.
At this stage, I suggest you
consult a neurologist for a thorough neurological examination and ascertain if you have any other neurological symptoms. He might suggest an MRI or other tests like an MR angiogram if there is any suspicion of a stroke.
Hope this helps. Wishing you good health.
Regards,
Dr Geeta
